Dean O'Hare, Chair

Dean is a seasoned voice of the international business and insurance community. O'Hare retired as chairman and chief executive officer of The Chubb Corporation at the end of 2002, after having served 40 years with Chubb. He joined Chubb in 1963, was named an officer of the corporation in 1972, chief financial officer in 1981, president in 1986, and chairman and CEO in 1988. Additionally, O'Hare served as a member of the President's Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations and was a member of The Business Roundtable and the Global Business Dialogue on E-commerce. O'Hare is currently a director of Fluor Corporation and H.J. Heinz Company. He is chairman of the New Jersey Partnership and chairman of the United States Council for International Business (USCIB.) He served as a director of the American Insurance Association for 15 years and as chairman for 4 years. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, O'Hare graduated from New York University in 1963 with a B.S. in financial management, and in 1969 earned an M.B.A. from the Pace University Graduate School of Business Administration.


Doug Alexander, Director

Doug an original member of Actua's (Nasdaq: ACTA) advisory board, Doug joined the company full-time in September 1997 as Managing Director, and was appointed President of ACTA in January, 2009. Doug has had many roles at Actua including CEO of WiseWire Technologies, which was acquired by Lycos; Chairman of Verticalnet through its IPO; CEO of ICG Europe; CEO of Traffic.com, which was later acquired by Navteq and CEO of Channel Intelligence, which was acquired by Google. In addition to these roles, Doug's primary focus at Actua has been to sponsor and oversee several partner companies that have included Blackboard (Nasdaq: BBBB), Verticalnet (Nasdaq:VERT), eMerge Interactive (Nasdaq: EMRG), Arbinet-thexchange (Nasdaq: ARBX), WiseWire (acquired by Lycos), LinkShare (acquired by Rakuten), CreditTrade (merged with Creditex Group), Creditex (acquired by IntercontinentalExchange (NYSE: ICE)), StarCite (Acquired by Active (Nasdaq: ACTV)), Traffic.com (acquired by Navteq), ClickEquations (acquired by Channel Intelligence), Channel Intelligence (acquired by Google) and Investor Force (acquired by MSCI (NYSE: MSCI)).   Additionally, Doug serves as the co-Chairman of NFTE Philadelphia, is a member of the President's Advisory Board for Eisenhower Fellows and is Chairman of the Management & Technology Executive Board at the University of Pennsylvania.

Prior to joining Actua, Doug co-founded Reality Online in 1989. Reality Online was an early innovator in the development of award-winning financial planning tools and online services aimed at the individual investor. With the advent of the Internet, Doug transformed the company into a leading provider of Internet solutions to the retail brokerage industry, and then sold the company to Reuters in February 1994. Over the following 3 years, Doug became a key contributor to Reuters' many Internet initiatives and a frequent speaker on the Internet and its impact on the financial services industry. Prior to co-founding Reality Online, Doug was a partner with Strategic Management Group, a corporate training firm and three-time Inc. 500 company.

Ami Dotan, Director

Ami has more than 28 years of extensive experience in developing communication systems and leading software and state-of-the-art technology entities. In 2000, Mr. Dotan co-founded Neurone Ventures II, which later became PNV (Platinum Neurone Ventures) a $105M, Israeli VC Fund. Prior to that, in 1997 he co-founded and was Partner of Neurone Ventures I. Neurone was one of the pioneer seed-investing firms in the venture capital industry in Israel. From 1980 to 1997, Mr. Dotan held various senior positions in Rafael, the largest R&D center in Israel, and a branch of the Ministry of Defense. From 1994 to 1997, he was Corporate Vice President at Rafael. In the last 10 years Mr. Dotan served as Chairman of three private companies and as a director for eight public and private companies. Mr. Dotan had a leading role in the IPO of CMT Medical, the acquisition of Xosoft by Computer Associates (CA) and the acquisition of Shellcase by Tessera.

Education: Mr. Dotan holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, (1976) and an MBA from Long Island University (1979) in New York.


Eric Gewirtzman, Chief Executive Officer

Co-founder of BOLT Solutions, Gewirtzman is a leading force for innovation in the insurance industry. Education: Gewirtzman studied computer science and economics at Tel Aviv University, and has an engineering degree in aerodynamics and mechanical engineering from the Israeli Air force Academy.


Ari Katz, President

Leveraging an extensive insurance and technology background, Katz co-founded BOLT Solutions with Eric Gewirtzman in 2000. Prior to BOLT, Katz was co-CEO and co-founder of Shadow Computers Ltd., a successful insurance software development company. There, Katz both created and led the team of technology innovators in bringing cutting edge technologies from other sectors into the insurance marketplace. Katz previously served as an officer and software engineer in the R&D division of the Israeli Army Intelligence, specifically with experience in secure transaction and information relay systems.

Education: Katz received an MBA from Tel Aviv University and a B.Sc. with distinction in electronic engineering from the Technion, Israel's leading technological institute.


Robert M. Lichten, Director

Robert has been Co-Chairman of Inter-Atlantic Group since 1994 and is a member of Inter-Atlantic Group’s investment committee. He also served as Co-Chairman of Guggenheim Securities LLC, Inter-Atlantic Group’s former NASD broker-dealer operation, until 2003. From 2007-2009, Mr. Lichten was also a Director of special purpose acquisition company Inter-Atlantic Financial, Inc. Previously, Mr. Lichten was Managing Director at both Smith Barney Inc. and Lehman Brothers Inc., where he concentrated on capital raising and providing merger and acquisition advisory services to financial institutions. Mr. Lichten was also formerly Executive Vice President of The Chase Manhattan Bank. During his 22 years at Chase he was a senior corporate banker and was in charge of worldwide capital planning. Mr. Lichten also served as Chief of Staff of the Asset-Liability Management Committee and President of The Chase Investment Bank. As President, he was responsible for all swap and derivative products, corporate finance, private placements, leasing, loan syndications and merger and acquisition activities. Mr. Lichten is a Director of Inter-Atlantic Group’s portfolio companies SeaPass Solutions, Inc., Accruit LLC, and GovernanceMetrics International, Inc. a corporate governance rating agency. In addition, he currently serves as a Director on the Board of Syncora Holdings Ltd. and its subsidiaries Syncora Guarantee Inc. and Syncora Capital Assurance. He is a former trustee of Manhattan College, a former Director of Annuity & Life Re (Holdings), Ltd. and a former Director and President of the Puerto Rico USA Foundation, a cooperative effort between the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and numerous multi-national corporations. He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and received the Air Force Commendation Medal for his work in solid rocket propulsion systems.

Education: Mr. Lichten holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College and an M.B.A. from New York University.


John Loftus, Director

John is a Managing Director at Actua (Nasdaq: ACTA). In this capacity, he leads acquisitions of partner companies and works with entrepreneurs to build great companies.  John has over 20 years of experience as a serial entrepreneur, private equity investor and operational executive. Prior to joining Actua, John was the founder of the Swinford Group LLC a management consulting firm focused on growth strategies and turnaround situations in private equity-backed and Fortune 1000 companies.  Prior to forming the Swinford Group, John was the Manager Director and Executive Vice President for all technology investments at Safeguard Scientifics, Inc. (NYSE: SFE). For Safeguard, he was an active director on partner company boards, led new and follow-on investments, and multiple successful exits, including the sale of Mantas to Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL).  Prior to joining Safeguard, John co-founded Gestalt LLC which focused on software solutions for government and energy customers and successfully was sold to Accenture (NYSE:ACN). John also served as Senior Vice President of Breakaway Solutions, where he managed all strategy and consulting engagements, and was part of the senior management team that took Breakaway Solutions public. Prior to Breakaway Solutions, John was the Senior Vice President and CTO of WPL Laboratories, which earned recognition as an Inc. 500 company. Early in his career, John held executive positions at PECO Energy and GE.

Charles M. Luchs, Director

Charles is an experienced authority in the international insurance community. Luchs dedicated 37 years of work to The Chubb Corporation, from 1965 until his retirement in 2002. He launched his career with Chubb in the company's Personal Insurance Division, was promoted to Personal Insurance Division Manager in 1979, Assistant Chief Underwriting Officer in 1988, and Co-Chief Underwriting Officer in 1994. In 1996, Luchs was named Chief Underwriting Officer of the corporation. Charles M. Luchs graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. After his undergraduate studies, he served as a U.S. Army Corporal in Paris, France. Following his service abroad, he pursued graduate education at the University of Arizona in Tucson.


Vince Menichelli, Director

Vince is a Managing Director at Actua (Nasdaq: ACTA) and has been with the company since May 2000. Vince primarily focuses on overseeing Actua's investments, providing strategic, operational and financial guidance to Actua's partner companies and evaluating new acquisition opportunities. Prior to joining Actua, Vince spent nine years with Arthur Andersen LLP and Coopers & Lybrand LLP, most recently as a Senior Manager in the technology practice of Arthur Andersen LLP. In these roles, Vince provided management consulting services including financial analysis, market research, merger and acquisition transaction support, due diligence and business valuation as well as audit and accounting services across a broad range of industries. In addition, he worked with clients on numerous venture capital investments, acquisitions, initial public offerings and company sales.
